Why do I write so much?

There’s the simple answer and then the philosophical answer. First I write a lot because, quite simply, I have a lot to say. I spend most of my day reading a vast corpus of diverse books and authors, from the Old and New Testament to Shakespeare and Tolstoy. I love reading. It’s an insatiable habit. What’s more, the more you read the more insight one gains to the human condition.

The philosophical aspect concerns a Marxist viewpoint on the world. Namely, the concept of praxis, or doing. Our knowledge of the world is not static and is never received through mere absorption. Rather one must be active, actively writing and engaging with knowledge all the time.

So two lessons. Read more to write more. And write more to know more.
